Right before Christmas last year there was a new challengable job position at InfoSec open in the company I’m currently working for. Now I finally took the chance to give my personal deep dive technical carrer a little bit a different direction. Since 2001 I was part of a network engineering team and most time involved into global projects as technical design expert or even as project lead. Sure this 10 years was full of challenging projects like migrating a global company from IPL based WAN to high available MPLS WAN, designing and deploying a complete new WAN from scratch for a company split, WAN exceleration technology and tons and tons of IPSEC VPN solutions, Juniper and Checkpoint firewalls, remote office deployments and much more. But if time goes it comes down to again and again doing the same job. The good thing at my position as sr network engineering in this company was my very close relation ship to the info sec team. I pretty much all the time had also my hands on several HA firewall cluster solutions based on Checkpoint and Juniper and in early times also based on Linux. Remote Access via dialup and VPN was also a topic as well as Internet DMZ setups. So it finally turned out just to be an decision to really kick my ass into the InfoSec direction and give most of my network stuff and project in some new hands.
Its now the fact that InfoSec will now be my center point of my worklife. I still hope that not only the daily operations of InfoSec systems will suck my whole day and that there will be real new challenges.
